Read: In the Band by Jean Haus

Blurb:

When family problems push Riley Middleton into giving up a percussion scholarship in another state and attending college from home, her friends push her to try out for a local rock band. Of course, Riley makes the band. She rules at the drums.

Riley soon finds out rock bands have a different dynamic than marching bands, especially when each of her male band mates has a major ego and is a major player. Two of them relentlessly flirt with her. The other—a dark, sexy rock god she can’t help being attracted to— is a total jerk and pushes her to quit. She becomes determined to ignore his rudeness and his hotness. Even if she was interested in jerks, a hook up would probably get her booted out of the ego-ridden band, and playing keeps her sane. Behind the drums, the world and its troubles evaporate.

If she wants to stay in the band, Riley needs to ignore the growing sparks between her and her band enemy. But as she gets to know the man behind the stage persona, ignoring him proves to be more difficult than flowing through a time sig shift.

Review:

Holy… This is just awesome. I don’t even know what to say… *thinks hard* Hmmmm… I’ll just go and enumerate why I like this book a lot.

OneMUSIC. I’ve been looking for a story with music in it. I’m getting hooked with books that has that kind of genre. I like music, who doesn’t? I always wanted to learn to play guitar. Always bugged my bf to teach me how. But never got to learn it really well cause I’m not patient. :P

TwoDrummer… I keep on mentioning that I really like drummers. I really have a thing with drummers. Although in this case, it’s a girl who played the drums and she totally ROCKED it. It makes me love drummers more. I’ve been having that dream where I’ll buy that Drum Mania machine for my house and so I could play drums there. LOL. :P

ThreeGuitarist. also known as Romeo. OMG. He’s a bit dark and brooding, jerk (a bit), sweet, perfectionist, slave driver, HOT, talented and boy genius. Damn. What more could you ask for?

Overall, yes, I love it. Even the issues with Riley’s mom and family. :)

Mini-reunion?!

HS friends

Last October 26th, I arranged a mini get together with some of my friends. It was for my boyfriend’s birthday so I called in our close friends to celebrate it with us. So here we are. :) Although there’s some drama happened especially the day after until this Tuesday.

I honestly didn’t expect that to happen or I didn’t really plan for them to see each other. All I care about is that they should be there cause it’s my boyfriend’s birthday and they were both our friends. I don’t really give shit about them being ex. I don’t want her calling my friend–who I was closed to as a brother–a bad person in public. >:( You don’t do that in Facebook even though in your opinion he really is. It’s not nice.

But all is well now. I don’t really care if she still can’t get over it even though they both have their own lives now and partners… It’s just annoying cause that just means that she’s still bitter to my friend. Even though it happened like, 2 or 3 years ago? or something. My bf even asked me to stay the heck out of their business… As if I wanted to be part of it. *rolls eyes*

Oh well. At least I enjoyed being with my friends for that day even for a while. ;)

Ramblings:

I’m loving this book! :) It’s pretty good. A girl who likes drums. I mentioned awhile back that I have a thing with drummers right? So yeah, I pretty much hooked with this book. :) I’m just 35% in… and Oh Romeo… Romeo. LOL, that’s the name of the Male MC. Romeo… Is HOT.

Read: Scarlet Woods by Brooke Passmore

Review:

I’d like to thank the author, Brooke Passmore for giving me a chance to read this book and review it for all of you. Thank you very much!

I honestly don’t know what rate will I give this novel… Until now, I don’t know. It didn’t WOW-ed me. I feel it is just good but not that amazing. The novel is incredibly long. Although it’s not boring but seriously, there’s a lot of things going on in the book. I guess the scenes are necessary and well thought… it’s just that yeah… too long for my taste. But if you’ll ask me if I would want something to be removed in the scene… There’s none I would want to take off in the novel.

While reading this book, I kept on remembering this old film–well, not really old, like 2006 old only–that was released in the Philippines called Moments of Love. It was of the same plot but well, in the book, the time was 1863 while in the movie, it’s 1950s. The difference was that in this novel, Danny Carson was from 1863 while Morgan was from the year 2013. In the movie, it was the other way around. The male lead was from the future while the female was from the past. They don’t have the special door going on in the film… and the only way they communicate was thru a telephone call. They don’t really meet each other personally.

Scarlet Woods was a novel I don’t usually read and first time reading a book with time-traveling characters. It’s pretty weird how they worked it out. I kept on thinking that one day the power or magic of that special door would lose. And that one day they’ll have to choose which side they’ll live in.

The characters were a bit annoying since they were, uh, stupid? or something. Actually, it’s just Morgan for me that made me feel like I want to snap her little neck cause of being annoying. It’s because how could she not understand that Danny was doing what he thought was the right thing. It’s just that Danny is from 1863! Can’t she understand that it’s different from hers and Danny’s time? Okay, so maybe she did, but still, ugh. Dammit. It annoyed the heck out of me. Then there’s this part where she made Danny choose again! For Heaven’s sake.

And I hate that Roy Walker for doing that awful thing to Sam. I can’t even keep on reading it when I got to that part. I feel Sam pain. I feel like I’m the one receiving the pain. I got teary eyed when I read Sam about to lose hope. :(

Scarlet Woods pretty much give me a lot of emotion. One moment I was smirking, the next I want to punch Roy (for being an ass) or Morgan (for being stupid) and then made me cry too. I wonder what would happen next in the second book. Hmm… Anyway, pretty good.

Review:

Got myself in a deal. :o sort of. Will read it as soon as I finish my CR.

I don’t know what rate I should give this book. This is certainly better than Thoughtless. The cheating part really don’t do me so I didn’t quite like Thoughtless back then. But in Effortless, since they are officially together, I started to like it. Heck, I started to really love Kellan Kyle. I started to see what the girls saw in him, why they get so gaga over him. Damnit, Kellan. YOU. ARE. SO. FREAKIN’. SWEET.

And I know this is so not a proper review since I’m just gushing out my feelings over the book and that hot rockstar, Kellan Kyle… But who effin’ cares?! I loved it. I’m willing to give it a 5 stars right now. But… there’s just this tiny bit of annoyance for both Kellan and Kiera. Although I totally understand them both by not saying anything and keeping secrets… Holy heck, just talk!

Effortless is basically just about them having trust issues since we all know what happened to Thoughtless and HOW they got together in the first place. And since Kellan and the rest of the D-bags got… in the ride (yeah, lame words, but that’s the only thing I could say without spoiling the book), trust is really hard for both Kiera and Kellan. There’s always the thought of someone cheating on someone.

But in the end, it was good. I even liked Griffin at the near end. I… Damn. Kellan is so sweet with all those notes… Crap. Also, this is the only time I cried because of this book. I didn’t cry in Thoughtless (uh, maybe I did, in frustration), this is just totally emotional. The sweetness of Kellan teared me up. The issues between them teared me up (only the emotional ones not the you cheat on me drama)..

I also believe this should be the end of the story. I don’t know why there’s still third book, Reckless which would be out by March 2013. For me this is already a closure. I just hope in the third book, there’s no cheating or else, I’m not reading it.

But yes, thumbs up for this one. 4.5 stars. Unlike Thoughtless which I gave only 2 stars, this is something that will probably make my friends (wink at Melissa and Dan) happy. :)

Since I couldn’t embed it, I just linked the video for P.C. and Kristin Cast when they talked about their latest book, Hidden (House of Night #10).

A Girl, A Boy and A Blog

Last Thursday night, October 18th, Goodreads held a live video chat with the authors of the bestseller young adult book Hidden, the tenth book of House of NightP.C. and Kristin Cast.

They talked about the summary of the book, things like how the mother and daughter duo write the steamy scenes and why did they decided to do a collaboration, who’s their favorite character, why vampyre series, etc.

I have watched it live but I decided to just embed linked the video in here since it’s really a bit hard to type what they said (they talk a bit fast for me to pick up word by word) and I think you’ll enjoy it more if it’s embedded linked. So here it is: Enjoy watching!

Sorry, I totally mean to embed it, but I don’t think it’s hosted…

Cover Reveal: Sweet Peril By Wendy Higgins (Sweet Evil #2)

Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins
(Sweet Evil #2)

Blurb:

Anna Whitt, daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a claim. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

My thoughts about the cover:

Uhm. Wow. Finally! There’s a cover for the book two of Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins. I like it but well… the cover guy… Uh, it’s like he’s a bit out of place in there or something. In any case, can’t wait for next year to read this book. Looking forward for Sweet Peril! :)

Review:

Finally! I have read the book and finished it! After having it for so many months, I finally decided to read it. And guess what? Rachel from Fiktshun who gave me this book (Thanks Rachel!) is totally right! I love it!  I am officially swooning over Kaidan Rowe. It’s… Oh my God.

Okay. So before me gushing out about Kaidan… Let me do a quick recap of the book, hopefully not spoiling anything…

Anna Whitt is someone who’s a good girl. Who stayed away from sin if she could help it. So it was ironic when she finally know what is her real nature. She’s one of a kind. When I read the blurb, I immediately thought that she’s a daughter of a demon cause there’s a question “will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?” and that the halo thingy is just her battling her inner demon to save her humanity. But I guess it’s just me thinking about that kind of reasoning.

One might say that it’s because she also have a parent who’s an Angel. Well that is true. But Anna didn’t know anything about her parents, didn’t know what she really is, a Nephilim. She just thought that she’s rather special cause of her unique abilities like seeing auras, sensing emotions, etc.

Then she met Kaidan Rowe. That hot drummer, son of Lust… Oh damn. Enough said. He’s a bit of a jerk at some point but he’s totally lovable! I can’t stop grinning about this book. I like Kaidan more cause he’s a drummer (I have a thing about drummers) and his name is Kaidan. I have this favorite JRock band named thE GazettE, and I adored the drummer there too, his name is also KAI. So that also adds to the factors why I love the book.

Plot… it’s not your ordinary angel vs demon book. It’s something a bit new. I was drawn by how Kaidan and Anna interacted, I like how Higgins made the book, how she enumerate the story one by one for us to discover more about Anna and Kaidan. But I don’t like how Anna became so… uh, negative about something. I think that’s the only thing I don’t like. How Anna could be a bit whiny when depressed.

I actually thought that Jay, the human best friend would eventually fall for Anna in the long run… Or just I know there’ll be a love triangle in this one but I didn’t expect the other guy. It’s cause he was introduced after 50% of the book. I’m not really a fan of love triangle but I guess that’s just how it is in some books.

Overall, it’s really a good book! ;) Worth a try.

Review:

Stolen Nights, the second book of Vampire Queen, IS AWESOME! Rebecca Maizel really did it with Stolen Nights! I really, really, really loved it! I’m so thankful to JP for introducing Infinite Days to me. :P

I said in my review of Infinite Days that I really wish that there’ll be more kick-ass actions in the book. And heck! My wish was granted! I didn’t get bored since from the start, there’s ‘actions’. And all my wish were there. I get to see Rhode again. Suleen. Tony (even though it’s just mere seconds).

Anyhow, the plot was really good. I mean, it’s really unique. With Lenah wanting to be human again after being made a Vampire without having a choice, from there, I know this story was really a unique one. I did not expect the characters and the story to be like that. I didn’t imagine it, didn’t thought of it. I hated the Aeris for keeping Lenah and Rhode away from each other. And I really hate the options they gave Lenah. :(

I didn’t like Justin ever since book one. And even though there’s a good reason for THAT, I still don’t like him. I’m really on TEAM RHODE.

Rhode, I love Rhode. Sheesh! No I’m not rating the book because of Rhode. I like him very much because he’s really a sweet guy. And the sparks between him and Lenah? WOW. I just kept grinning. Right there and then, I want him to be happy with Lenah. He already lost too much and in pain for a long time. He deserves happiness.

And there’s Vicken! Omg. I like him too. I like him now that he’s Human. He’s funny, supportive, protective, and a lot more. I really enjoyed reading the book because of Vicken.

Lenah’s choices were understandable, what I didn’t understand was why she keeps hanging with Justin. What I really like was that she’s connected to Rhode. She could see what’s in Rhode’s mind or just flashes of it. They are soul mates  So I really wish they’ll still be together. I like that Lenah is a kick-ass character! She also do her spells like when she did when she was a vamp. Most books I’ve read says that once a vamp, you could not touch or do magic since they were undead. They don’t have a life anymore and that’s what I liked in SN too, vamps could do magic.

YES, I really want a third book. And I wonder when will there be a news about it. Seriously! How long should we wait for it?! >_<

OVERALL, 5 FREAKIN’ STARS!!!
