Read: Indigo Awakening by Jordan Dane {ARC}

BLURB:

Because of what you are, the Believers will hunt you down.

Voices told Lucas Darby to run. Voices no one else can hear. He’s warned his sister not to look for him, but Rayne refuses to let her troubled brother vanish on the streets of LA. In her desperate search, she meets Gabriel Stewart, a runaway with mysterious powers and far too many secrets. Rayne can’t explain her crazy need to trust the strange yet compelling boy—to touch him—to protect him even though he scares her.

A fanatical church secretly hunts psychic kids—gifted “Indigo” teens feared to be the next evolution of mankind—for reasons only “the Believers” know. Now Rayne’s only hope is Gabe, who is haunted by an awakening power—a force darker than either of them imagine—that could doom them all.

Review:

Hmmm… The story is pretty good. The way it was delivered was okay. I mean, it’s not that confusing even though it keeps on changing the POV. It is just necessary for the story. I think it’s just that… I am not sure Rayne should be the heroine. LOL. Er. Maybe it’s just cause of too many POVs.

Okay… thinking about it, it does sounds confusing. Indigo Awakening was, I believe, labeled as a Dystopian. But not really. Okay, not that much. Indigo kids are a bunch of kids who are psychics. And then there’s this church (why church? because they are hybrids? I mean, they are not made by experimenting…) who are hunting the Indigo or Crystal children.

The way it was written let us see what was inside of their minds. Rayne is a normal kid. Lucas, her brother is an Indigo kid. Gabriel is a Crystal child. A much more hybrid than Indigo. It all comes back to Gabriel. The story mostly was all about him. The others were just uh… side story.

He got lots of secrets. Which he kept for self-preservation. And goodness, I only realised his connection with the church after 90%! LOL. I am that slow on picking things like that. :P

So… I’ll give this 2.5 for the way it was delivered, 3.5 for the story and 3 for capturing my attention after the 5th chapter. That’ll be 3 stars. :)

Review:

I don’t know what to rate this book… I didn’t expect the plot to be like that. Speechless. :/ I’ll make a proper review later when I get home. :) For now, 5 stars.

After two days… I still don’t know what to say about this book… Hmmm… Okay… Let’s try…

First, I love the cover. That’s ALWAYS the first thing I notice about a book. Then of course, I DON’T read the blurb. But this book… I always saw people in my Goodreads Updates that they say it’s so good, it was amazing and all that positive feedback that I just had to bump it up in my TR List. I was that curious as to why they we’re having raving reviews. Oh, I didn’t read their reviews by the way, even the spoiler free reviews. :/ I want to know on my own.

So there, I started to read it… Then put it off cause I was on vacation and my family was demanding attention. :P Then when I got back, I started reading it again.

By the way, this is my first Colleen Hoover book. I have not read Slammed or Point of Retreat or whatever other books she have. So okay, back to the review…

“I want you to keep them open…because I need you to watch me give you the very last piece of my heart.”

Linden Sky… she reminds me of Ang. Well, just because she’s also a noob in technology. :P In any case, I like her character because she’s strong. Contrary to her belief, I so agree with Dean Holder. That she is a strong woman. I don’t think plenty of women would be back up and walking again if that scenario happened to them.

“The sky is always beautiful.Even when it’s dark or rainy or cloudy,it’s still beautiful to look at….it’ll be there no matter what…and I know it’ll always be beautiful.”

Dean Holder… When we (Sky and I) first had a glimpse of Holder, my first thought was “HUH.” But that changed when he did what he did in that parking lot. I was now officially intrigued by this plot. I know there’s something in Holder. We both know there’s something holding Holder back.

I was so focused on Holder. I didn’t know that what he knew had would affect Sky too. (view spoiler) So imagine my shock when the secrets were all coming down fast to Sky.

(view spoiler) I did not cry. I was beyond horrified that someone could do that, when all the secrets were revealed. It actually made me remember my own written stories 4 or 5 years ago. I also wrote something like that. (view spoiler) The only time I cried was when Holder and Sky were talking in the hotel. I feel for them. :(

I like how the story progressed. How it was all connected to Sky. Why her ‘adoptive’ mother did all that. I like how Holder and Sky still got each other in the end and they tried to heal together. It’s not easy, but I think they could do it. :)

“Its real, Six. You cant get mad at a real ending. Some of them are ugly. Its the fake happily ever afters that should piss you off.”

I know this is not a good review, but that’s what summed up my thoughts on this book. So I’m retaining my 5 stars rating for this book. :)

P.S. To view the spoilers, click it and it’ll redirect you to my Goodreads review of this book. :)

Review:

I think my friends all knew I’m a fan of Kelly Oram. Since I made them read Being Jamie Baker which I totally love even though some of my friends criticize it. :o So when I saw this V is for Virgin book months ago before it was released, I was ecstatic and excited to read it. Although I didn’t like Serial Hottie very much, I simply love this one but not like I love BJB, of course.

First of all, I so freakin’ love the cover.

OMG. I cried! I freakin’ cried because of this book! What the heck is wrong with me? LOL. I liked it. A lot. Not because the guy, Kyle is so swoon worthy or that he’s incredibly hot. It’s because I like how the story went. From the first page, V is for Virgin, have my attention. I like Valerie’s character. Her fight for this cause, for what she believes in, is so… honorable and responsible of her. Well, okay, I don’t know the right words to describe Valerie.

I liked how she got her doubts about it cause let’s face it, that is so not easy to do. Especially when a lot of people doesn’t want to believe in you and they are ridiculing you. It’s normal to get doubts. Especially because those big things, you need to decide carefully.

So Kyle here, the lead vocalist of Tralse, is up for the challenge which is Valerie. I like him okay, he made me smile and laugh, but I still like Ryan Miller more than him. LOL. It’s all because of the way he approach Valerie. His methods are not good. :/ I actually want to shake him a little as to why can’t he be THAT kind of person. And why does he make things so difficult to the point they always argue every time they meet.

In that second to the last chapter, or is it third? Anyway, I keep on wondering like Valerie. I mean, is love really not that enough to enjoy the relationship? Is it really that necessary to have sex when you are in a relationship? I’m not being prude, but I just have to admit that that questions got me.

Well, I love Valerie’s cause. So much that I’m giving this book a well-deserved FIVE stars. Although it’s really a bit lacking since I really dig love story. But am turning a blind eye for that one because of Valerie and V is For Virgin cause. Btw, that last chapter reminded me of a movie called, Crazy Little Thing Called Love. It’s a Thai love story and I love it. ;) It just remind me of that because of the interview and the guests. ;)

Oh! I so want those jewelries too! I was like trying to see if there’s really visforvirgin.com site. LOL. :P

BOTW: City of Dark Magic by Magnus Flyte {14th December 2012}

BLURB:

Cosmically fast-paced and wildly imaginative, this debut novel is a perfect potion of magic and suspense.

Once a city of enormous wealth and culture, Prague was home to emperors, alchemists, astronomers, and, as it’s whispered, hell portals. When music student Sarah Weston lands a summer job at Prague Castle cataloging Beethoven’s manuscripts, she has no idea how dangerous her life is about to become. Prague is a threshold, Sarah is warned, and it is steeped in blood.
Soon after Sarah arrives, strange things begin to happen. She learns that her mentor, who was working at the castle, may not have committed suicide after all. Could his cryptic notes be warnings? As Sarah parses his clues about Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved,” she manages to get arrested, to have tantric sex in a public fountain, and to discover a time-warping drug. She also catches the attention of a four-hundred-year-old dwarf, the handsome Prince Max, and a powerful U.S. senator with secrets she will do anything to hide.
City of Dark Magic could be called a rom-com paranormal suspense novel—or it could simply be called one of the most entertaining novels of the year.

Review:

First of all, I was the one who nagged or recommend it to everyone. It is my BOTW. I was looking for people who might want to read it WITH me so I decided to make it the BOTW. Sooooo… I am the one who didn’t finish it. LOL. Half of my friends finished the book and didn’t like it… I really thought I’m gonna like it because the concept is interesting. BUT no, the writing… It bored me to the point I don’t understand it anymore and didn’t bother to read all of it.

See. My fear is really spot on for this book. I know that this was MY pick and I should finish it but why should I waste my time to reading something that is not really making me want to finish it? The only thing that is keeping me from reading it is because I was the one who choose this and made everyone read it. But really, that’s not enough reason to finish a book. They (GR friends) might bully me for not finishing it, but really, I don’t give a damn anymore. I’m done with this book. And for those people who I asked to read this, you don’t have to finish it. And sorry.

It’s true by the way, they did bully me. LOL. Ah, but that’s just how they are, that’s how they show their affections for me. :D Anyway, I got this friend who likes it and rated it 4-stars. :)

Review:

I finally continued the book. I finished it like an hour ago and totally forgot to mark it read. Been busy looking for Logo Quiz apps in my tablet. LOL. Anyway…

I spent 4 days reading it but in actuality if you just count the number of hours I spent reading it… it would only be just less than 6 hours. What? I am busy watching House M.D. so I didn’t bother reading anything. Plus I am always out with my bf or friends.

The book is, was, okay. I feel like it’s really lacking and it could still grow and developed into a good book. I mean, towards the ending where she wrote a letter, I was waiting for something MORE to happen. Not that kind of ending. There’s supposed to be more to that. I know he didn’t admit the Nemesis thing but if they don’t want to verbally confirm it… I NEED TO KNOW. Confirm it verbally. I don’t like guessing even though I am probably right about it.

This book is just sex. Might as well put it in a short story category and there’s no real substance. BUT still… I want the plot to grow. damn. LOL.

oh heck. Anyway… Merry Christmas! :P

Review:

Wow. I love this book. Full review when I wake up later. ;)

Morning came… and I still love this novella. I think this is the first book after months that really made me giddy because of the sweetness? Ah! I don’t know what to phrase it in English but we do have this word in Tagalog called ‘kilig’.

kilig (KEE-lig) – To shiver. When used in topics of love and romance, it means to shiver with delight when something romantic or cute…

That’s what I freakin’ felt while reading this novella. I’m grinning from ear to ear (Thank God it’s night time when I read this), stupidly feeling happy and I’ve been biting my lower lip while reading to stop myself from smiling. BUT I JUST CAN’T HELP IT.

“I strongly suggest you don’t do that. During a game you will have to stop the ball. But you’re not allowed to use your hands. So you use your body to block it. Your shoulders, or head, but mostly your chest.”

“Aha. There’s only one problem with that.” I cupped my boobs with both hands. “I’ve got these!”

Struck silent, his gaze traveled from my eyes downward and didn’t return. The spark in his eyes almost scared me. Like I was Snow White and he was the…Hunter. In fact, I didn’t want to even imagine what thoughts crossed his mind right then. I sapped my fingers between our faces.

“Eyes up here.” He obeyed. Reluctantly. The sliver of an impish smile crept to his lips.

It’s a light novella, a bit predictable, BUT I really love it cause it made me really really smile, an honest-to-goodness smile. An innocent smile and laugh, not the smile because I know something would lead to something adult-like. LOL. I’ve been reading new-adult books a lot now, so this is just a good change of pace.

BOTW: Wallbanger by Alice Clayton {3rd December 2012}

My friends and I started making a Book of The Week or BOTW again. Yes, again. LOL. Since we do group reads irregularly. ;) But we’ll try to make it regular now. Will do a group read every Friday. So here’s the first for this week but actually we got two this week. I’m still finishing up the last one.

 BLURB:

Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a KitchenAid mixer, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O.

Adding insult to O-less, since her move, she has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Each moan, spank, and–was that a meow?–punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has, yep, you guessed it, no O.

Enter Simon Parker. (No, really, Simon, please enter.) When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has, well, mixed results. Ahem. With walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick…

In her third novel, Alice Clayton returns to dish her trademark mix of silly and steamy. Banter, barbs, and strutting pussycats, plus the sexiest apple pie ever made, are dunked in a hot tub and set against the gorgeous San Francisco skyline in this hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight.

Review:

Enjoying it. :) OMG. Clive is awesome! LOL. That last part is funny. The one that got away… :D

Will do a review after I finished Opal. ;)

I really did enjoyed reading it for the most part. From the start it was funny. And I could totally imagine her hearing all that noise at the other side of that wall. I laughed at Clive when he heard the “meow” thingy and then he attacked jumped that wall and scratch it trying to join them at the other side. :D

That is so freakin’ hilarious plus when Clive finally met Purina. :P He was like “Purrrreeeeennnnyyyaaaa…” And he ran after the poor girl. That one was so EPIC in so MANY LEVELS that I can’t get over it. Really, Clive, I wonder how did he know that THAT girl was Purina. From her voice? Maybe. All I am saying is that I want my OWN CLIVE. :P

So yes, it certainly had boring moments. And that sex scene? OMG. It’s so freakin long. LOL. That part in Caroline’s apartment? Ugh. I was like, please stop it already. I know you had your O back but I don’t need to suffer from reading all that sex again and again and again. And talking while sexing? By talking I mean, like that normal talk/discussion… Er… Yeah…

But as I have said, I did enjoy it because their banter is so great and the chemistry is good too. Plus of course, there’s Clive who really made a difference. :P And that last part? Where it’s Clive POV?? I just had to laugh at the last line… The one that got away… :D
