Read: If You Stay by Courtney Cole {02.12.2013}

BLURB:

24-year old Pax Tate is an asshole.
Seriously.

He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.

But he’s got his reasons.

His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn’t understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.

As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn’t work. His dad couldn’t overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn’t keep up the impossible perfect façade.
So he slipped far, far from it.

Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn’t want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn’t there, then it isn’t, right?
Wrong.

And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila.
Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’s got to figure it out because he needs her to breathe.

When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.

But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.

He knows that. And he’s working on it.

But is that enough to make her stay?

Review:

I finished it before our BOTW this Saturday. Yay! :)

Hmmm. I don’t know if I really like this book. One, Pax said “I’m not a pussy” or “I’m no pussy” every dang page. I mean, whenever it was his time for POV. And I was like “I know, I got it already, you’re not. Stop saying it for God’s sake.” And I don’t know. The plot was okay. It did teared me up a bit. I was reading it here in the office and I was getting teary eyed that I had to stop for a second. :/

I’m not quite sure on how to say it. Or what to feel about it. Anyway, I was a bit shocked on how it first started out. :O I know that this is totally their book. And by ‘their’, I meant Alisa and the rest of the girls. LMAO.

And too much drama. Too much baggage. But of course not ‘too much’ of sex scene. LOL. But that’s only my opinion. Whatever. Oh! I just saw that this is a series when I first started it. But then the ending is quite okay for me. So what is the second book about? If it’s Maddison’s story, then I might bail out of reading this series.

Don’t really care about the other characters much. I’m not curious on how they went on with their life. In any case, 3.5 stars for me.

BOTW: City of Dark Magic by Magnus Flyte {14th December 2012}

BLURB:

Cosmically fast-paced and wildly imaginative, this debut novel is a perfect potion of magic and suspense.

Once a city of enormous wealth and culture, Prague was home to emperors, alchemists, astronomers, and, as it’s whispered, hell portals. When music student Sarah Weston lands a summer job at Prague Castle cataloging Beethoven’s manuscripts, she has no idea how dangerous her life is about to become. Prague is a threshold, Sarah is warned, and it is steeped in blood.
Soon after Sarah arrives, strange things begin to happen. She learns that her mentor, who was working at the castle, may not have committed suicide after all. Could his cryptic notes be warnings? As Sarah parses his clues about Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved,” she manages to get arrested, to have tantric sex in a public fountain, and to discover a time-warping drug. She also catches the attention of a four-hundred-year-old dwarf, the handsome Prince Max, and a powerful U.S. senator with secrets she will do anything to hide.
City of Dark Magic could be called a rom-com paranormal suspense novel—or it could simply be called one of the most entertaining novels of the year.

Review:

First of all, I was the one who nagged or recommend it to everyone. It is my BOTW. I was looking for people who might want to read it WITH me so I decided to make it the BOTW. Sooooo… I am the one who didn’t finish it. LOL. Half of my friends finished the book and didn’t like it… I really thought I’m gonna like it because the concept is interesting. BUT no, the writing… It bored me to the point I don’t understand it anymore and didn’t bother to read all of it.

See. My fear is really spot on for this book. I know that this was MY pick and I should finish it but why should I waste my time to reading something that is not really making me want to finish it? The only thing that is keeping me from reading it is because I was the one who choose this and made everyone read it. But really, that’s not enough reason to finish a book. They (GR friends) might bully me for not finishing it, but really, I don’t give a damn anymore. I’m done with this book. And for those people who I asked to read this, you don’t have to finish it. And sorry.

It’s true by the way, they did bully me. LOL. Ah, but that’s just how they are, that’s how they show their affections for me. :D Anyway, I got this friend who likes it and rated it 4-stars. :)

Review:

I finally continued the book. I finished it like an hour ago and totally forgot to mark it read. Been busy looking for Logo Quiz apps in my tablet. LOL. Anyway…

I spent 4 days reading it but in actuality if you just count the number of hours I spent reading it… it would only be just less than 6 hours. What? I am busy watching House M.D. so I didn’t bother reading anything. Plus I am always out with my bf or friends.

The book is, was, okay. I feel like it’s really lacking and it could still grow and developed into a good book. I mean, towards the ending where she wrote a letter, I was waiting for something MORE to happen. Not that kind of ending. There’s supposed to be more to that. I know he didn’t admit the Nemesis thing but if they don’t want to verbally confirm it… I NEED TO KNOW. Confirm it verbally. I don’t like guessing even though I am probably right about it.

This book is just sex. Might as well put it in a short story category and there’s no real substance. BUT still… I want the plot to grow. damn. LOL.

oh heck. Anyway… Merry Christmas! :P

Review:

Whoa. Okay. First, Rock Chick was recommended to me by Dan, I said I’ll read it some time later… Then last Sunday, I think, Glam asked me to join their (Dan and her) re-read of Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley. I said yes. BUT all of them was like, “Read Rock Chick first. You’ll like it better.” so again, I said OKAY. Then started to read Rock Chick. I honestly thought that I’ll shun away from all Kristen Ashley’s books. Because I was bored by Sweet Dreams (Dan said it was good, so I tried it for her but I ended up not finishing it) and so I was wary to read other Kristen Ashley books.

Another thing, KA’s books are incredibly LONG. And it’s not that I hate long books, it’s just I worry about whether I will like it to keep reading it. I had this habit or I should say rule that if I start a book, I would finish a book no matter what. I got three books that I stopped reading because they either bored me to death or I didn’t really understand what’s happening. PLUS, long books really takes me a lot LONGER TO READ. I’m a slow reader, so now I got a headache and my eyes are hurting. Still is even after a good night sleep of almost 10 hours.

my initial internal state before starting Rock Chick.

Yes, me putting on my big girl panties.

Okay, enough side-talk. :P Onto the review…

I was so surprise that I really liked this book. Yes, the girls are right about it. I absolutely love it. I was like grinning the whole time. Even to the first few chapters. Even when I got this stupid headache, it was WORTH IT.

I was like this the whole time.

Well… Does that makes everything clear? ;) So Indy Savage, is a daughter of a Cop. She got an extended family, her father, Tom Savage‘s best friend with Malcolm Nightingale, her mom’s best friend with Kitty Sue Nightingale, and Indy’s best friends with Ally Nightingale, the daughter of Malcolm and Kitty Sue. And Malcolm is also a cop, Hank, the eldest of the three children of Malcolm and Kitty is also a cop. Liam, however is a different story. He’s not a cop. Just a Private Investigator that is mysterious and got lots of underworld assets and what-not.

I love Indy. I think she’s on her 30s? But she act like she’s still on her teens. She got qualities that I have. I mean, it’s just that she got attitude, I got one too. And I do that “nanny nanny foo foo” thing too! LOL. And I do it while stick out my tongue. :D She got a sharp tongue, I sometimes got it too. Just sometimes… Cause the whole time, I am nice and would say YES to almost every thing my friends say. BUT really, Indy got kidnapped way too much. Once is enough, Twice is too much, and I don’t know what’s for the third. :P

Liam Nightingale... Lee… HE made me smirk that smirk and smile The Smile. Lee is hot. Well, he’s the badass of all the badasses. And so he’s the SHIT, man. BUT, there’s always the but here… I don’t like the excuse he gave Indy for not being together when Indy was throwing herself to him every single time back then. Pfft. That’s not an excuse! >:( In any case, I still like him though. He’s sweet. BUT controlling, good thing is Indy doesn’t like to  be controlled. Lee IS overprotective. Well I would too in everyone I love.

I like the Denver Police Department. They took care of their own. Indy was considered one of their own. And they are all protective of her. Especially since her father is one of the cops. But sadly, I didn’t see Tom or Malcolm AS A COP IN ACTION. Did they already retired? I didn’t think it was mentioned. I love all the characters. Well, except the bad guys. I love all the supporting characters.

SO there you go! This is my FIRST KA book that I really finished and I LOVED it. :)

 BLURB:

Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a KitchenAid mixer, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O.

Adding insult to O-less, since her move, she has an oversexed neighbor with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Each moan, spank, and–was that a meow?–punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has, yep, you guessed it, no O.

Enter Simon Parker. (No, really, Simon, please enter.) When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbor. Their late-night hallway encounter has, well, mixed results. Ahem. With walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick…

In her third novel, Alice Clayton returns to dish her trademark mix of silly and steamy. Banter, barbs, and strutting pussycats, plus the sexiest apple pie ever made, are dunked in a hot tub and set against the gorgeous San Francisco skyline in this hot and hilarious tale of exasperation at first sight.

Review:

Enjoying it. :) OMG. Clive is awesome! LOL. That last part is funny. The one that got away… :D

Will do a review after I finished Opal. ;)

I really did enjoyed reading it for the most part. From the start it was funny. And I could totally imagine her hearing all that noise at the other side of that wall. I laughed at Clive when he heard the “meow” thingy and then he attacked jumped that wall and scratch it trying to join them at the other side. :D

That is so freakin’ hilarious plus when Clive finally met Purina. :P He was like “Purrrreeeeennnnyyyaaaa…” And he ran after the poor girl. That one was so EPIC in so MANY LEVELS that I can’t get over it. Really, Clive, I wonder how did he know that THAT girl was Purina. From her voice? Maybe. All I am saying is that I want my OWN CLIVE. :P

So yes, it certainly had boring moments. And that sex scene? OMG. It’s so freakin long. LOL. That part in Caroline’s apartment? Ugh. I was like, please stop it already. I know you had your O back but I don’t need to suffer from reading all that sex again and again and again. And talking while sexing? By talking I mean, like that normal talk/discussion… Er… Yeah…

But as I have said, I did enjoy it because their banter is so great and the chemistry is good too. Plus of course, there’s Clive who really made a difference. :P And that last part? Where it’s Clive POV?? I just had to laugh at the last line… The one that got away… :D

Review: *with spoilers*

I really don’t know what and how to rate this book. I can’t say that this is really an amazing book cause I feel that it’s really not. But I can’t say that I didn’t like it cause I did, NOT because my friends (yes the girls that made me read this) would tell me that I’m a liar or PRUDE. ;D

What made me continue reading this is not because of the steamy scenes which were so many that I lost count of it. It’s like for every chapter they were either having sex or a heated discussion. It was because I’m insanely curious about Christian Grey’s fuckedupness. I want to know why he was like that. And thank God it was finally revealed to me and that it’s almost what I expected.

What I didn’t expect to see was Christian as a submissive. I was left mouth opened, gaping like an idiot at my phone (reading kindle at my phone, tablet ran out of battery), trying to comprehend what the hell just happened and why am I seeing that scene. It was so unexpected that my heart goes to Christian. His childhood was not that morbid in my mind but seeing Christian as a Sub when he is now a Dom was um, a bit disturbing? Cause Ana has that power over Christian. Or maybe it’s not the word. Not disturbing… It’s weird to see a man begging for you not to go. You know, since man is essentially have this pride higher than tallest building or mountain in the world.

And yes! No Red Room! I mean its just once. And whatever happened there stays there. I don’t wanna discuss what happened there cause its weird for me. :/ Although one thing I could say about it is that they came back happy and contented.

I noticed that the dialogues in the book, both book 1 and book 2 were quite the same with each other. It keeps on repeating. The talk about food, the how Christian was angry about something, how Ana feels about Elena. :/ The mention of same words all throughout the book was a bit exhausting to read.

Btw, the event at the last part, for Christian’s birthday was a surprising one. And it’s pretty good to have that scene once and for all.

Oh, another thing, I know, I’m so effin’ innocent about BDSM, but… there’s this line Christian said that Ana don’t know what he could do about the canes and cats… so that leaves me questioning what does one do with a cane?? You know, caning. Plus with a cat??? WTF??? Is my imagination right? … Oh scratch that, I don’t want my imagination to be right cause I might hurl. :/

Review:

Fine. I’m giving in. Dan made me.

This is a bit hard to rate… I’ll stick to honesty, as always. First few chapters, until chapter 7, made me feel mushy. I actually liked it then… But when Christian Grey introduced the Red Room of Pain or his playroom… I started to have second thoughts. I’m wincing the entire time they are there. Fine, I’m okay with the tying up but hitting? A big fat NO.

Christian Grey said that he is NOT a Sadist but a Dominant. But as you go on the story, you’ll read the part that “I want to hurt you.” or that “I like hitting you.” or something in that area. Uh, isn’t that Sadism? The fact that he likes to hit you brought him pleasure. In my vocabulary, that’s Sadism. If you remove about the BDSM parts (okay, I admit, it’s not really that much), I would have swoon over Christian. I would gladly give this a five stars if only his circumstances is not a control freak as Ana always says.

I also admit that Grey is not really a Dom for that matter. Er, I know I haven’t read a LOT of BDSM books and technically this is my second time reading a book about it… But I dunno. I don’t think he’s really a Dom. Sure he took care of Ana and all that. But I think he’s just uh, manipulative and gets whatever he wants. Eh… I don’t know…

Anastasia Steele, I wanted to hit her myself when she suddenly agreed to Grey. Think more before you agree with him. Don’t just agree because you find him HOT and gorgeous and all that beautiful adjectives. And sometimes, her smart mind fails her with crappy choices.

I don’t like the contract too. I feel like she’s treated as a property although I know that it’s not really like that. See why I don’t really like BDSM? I can’t obey ALL those rules. It will just make me feel collared. BUT I do admit that some of the scene is really erotic and affects me too. Again, I cringe with every scene in that Red Room which was I think 3 times only.

And that last part? I teared up a bit. (view spoiler) I really don’t like the hitting even though it’s for pleasure or such. It’s not right to be hit. :/ I know, you guys would or might argue with me that it’s not. But well, that’s my opinion. And that’s yours. :)

I did enjoy some parts of the book. Like that Gliding. I enjoyed it and wanted to try it myself. Hehe. :P And what’s with the inner goddess talk?! Makes me think she has multiple personality. I’m tempted to give this book a two stars but well, since I have parts that I do enjoy it (like the emails!), three stars for Grey.

P.S. Since I wanna know what’s his deal, I’ll read the next book.

Ramblings:

I finally gave in to peer pressure. I’m reading this because my girl friend, Dan wanted me to. Even my cousin said that I should read it… What can I say? I can’t say NO to them. :/ As far as I’m in which is not so much, it’s pretty okay. It’s making me grin… I’m a bit worried about it actually. I’m NOT into BDSM. The first BDSM book I’ve read was Slave by Sherri Hayes. And it’s not really that er, BDSM-ish? It’s mild. So I don’t really consider it as my first BDSM book. I believe this Fifty Shades is hard core BDSM.

I’ve actually tried the audio book… I fast forward it to the first sex scene between Ana and Christian. I’m not turned on. BECAUSE I KEEP ON LAUGHING. I was laughing my ass off cause the girl who’s talking in the audio book is trying so hard to sound like a man, hence, me laughing like crazy. You guys should try listening to it and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I deleted the files cause I can’t stop giggling and just decided to read the book. :p

I don’t know what to hope for this one. >_< My friends over at GR keep saying “Good luck, you need it.” to me and “Why did you give in?” comments. :p Well, good luck to me.
